About the Akai Yamaha YZR500
Legendary British motorcycle racer, Barry Sheene, raced in the 1980 World Grand Prix on a Yamaha YZR500 sponsored by Akai. The bike’s stylish color scheme of red lines on a black base caught the attention of many fans at the time, and has remained a favorite over the years. After the finish of the WGP season, Sheene amazed Japanese motorcycle fans with his performance at the TBC Big Road Race.
