In the late summer of 1942 a new German heavy combat tank appeared on the battle fields of the second world war, the Panzer VI, Sd.Kfz.181,known as the "Tiger". With a weight of almost 60 tonnes, an 8.8 cm cannon (L/56) and a very heavily armoured front, this tank was developed to the terror of its numerous opponents. Although only 1,355 were produced and there were frequent technical break-downs which often led to the surrender of the vehicle, the Tiger was in use on all fronts up to 1945 and gained a legendary reputation with the Allies. The German infantrymen in the set are shown in the special winter camouflage worn in the second half of the war. It includes the later infantry weapons: the 44 automatic rifle, the recoilless anti-tank launcher, a type of bazooka, and the semi automatic G-43.
