On February 6, 1954, this racy sports coupé was launched as the little brother of the 300 SL at the Motor Sports Show in New York where it took on the rest of the sports car world. The 190 SL was a sporty and comfortable all-rounder, suitable for gentle competitions. The engine, a 1.9 litre, 4-cylinders-in-line engine with a capacity of 105 bhp (78 kW), was also appropriate to the grand touring class. It had a top speed of 170 km/h, which was sensational at that time. The elegant Cabriolet won many female hearts. From 1955 to 1963 a total of 25,881 of the type 190 SL rolled of the lines.
