Volume Two opens with the German onslaught into France and the Low Countries in 1940 during which the Kampfflieger formed the airborne spearhead, following which they were halted at the Channel coast and embarked on a draining campaign of attrition against the British Isles in what became known as the Battle of Britain.
The study then moves to the Balkans, the Mediterranean and North Africa and encompasses early anti-shipping and torpedo operations with the Ju 88, He 111 and Fw 200. There is an outline of the Luftwaffe’s foray into Iraq before the story moves to the massive German attack against Russia in mid-1941.
The book contains hundreds of fascinating photographs of Do 17s, Ju 88s, He 111s, Fw 200s.
