Lavochkin LA7 was a single - seat, single - engine, IOW - wing monoplane of mixed wood-metal construction with hydraulically inwards - retracting undercarriage. The wings, divided into wing centre section and wing outer panels, had two metal spars and outer ribs, other ribs were made from wood, and plywood skinning. The tail of plane was an all-wood construction. All control surfaces were metal framed with fabric skin. The fuselage, mixed wood metaI semi-monocogue, was built up on Siberian birch frames and metal longeros; Siberian birch plywood skin being impregnated with phenolformaldehyde , moulded and cured under heat. The engine bed was made from steel tubes, the front part of fuselage was covered by detachable metal panels. The La-7 was powered by Shvetsov M-82FN (ASH-82FN) two-row, fourteen cylinder air-cooled radial engine with direct fuel injection, rated at 1.850h.p. take-of power at 2.500 r.p.m. and 1,60 atm. press; and 1.650h.p. nominal power at 2.400 r.p.m., 1,36 atm. press at 1.650 m. altitude. The all-metal three blades propeller was adjustable hydraulically. Three armored fuel tanks at that self-sealing, and " topped-up " with inert gases from exhaust system, were provided in wing centre section, total fuel capacity being 610I. The cockpit was armoured by armour glasses in canopy and armour plate behind the pilot's seat. The standard armament of two or three 20-mm. Shvak cannon, with 200 rounds per cannon, was supplemented by two bombs up to 150 kg. and also exceptionally by six RS-82 rockets on special racks.
