Railroads powered entirely by Alco locomotives are few in number. The Green Bay and Western Railroad has a total of sixteen operating Alcos, and has had a love affair with these engines since diesels first replaced steam locomotives. Their units are well maintained and look great in their beautiful red paint scheme.

Stretching east/west from one side of the Badger State to the other, the Green Bay and Western line passes through scenic Wisconsin farmland. Much of the railroad's traffic is related to the state's booming paper industry. Local freights are seen in action as they work these vital industries.

We follow road trains across the state, watching as they stop to pick up and set out cars. Powered by smoking and burbling Alco diesels, the trains put on fascinating shows as they work over the hills and through small towns.
