GTW began as a segment of the Grand Trunk Railway, a Canadian transcontinental. Grand Trunk was folded into Canadian National (owned by the Canadian government) in 1923 and GTW was formed to operate the lines in Michigan and short segments in Indiana and Illinios 5 years later. In addition to serving as a vital link for CN between Port Huron and Chicago, GTW is also important to the automobile industry with service to Detroit, Pontiac, Durand and Lansing. After 1953, GTW dropped the maple leaf from their logo, resulting in the green and white tilted square seen above. In 1961 their image changed dramatically along with Canadian National and fellow ward Central Vermont. The so-called "noodle" logos were way ahead of their time and continue to be the CN and GTW standard, 41 years later.
Features the Deluxe Innovations patent pending positionable door, etched metal roofwalk, etched metal brakewheel, and etched metal stirrups. The underframe is full dimensional in two parts, and the trucks are equipped with magnetically operating Atlas Accumate® knuckle couplers and free rolling delrin wheels.
