First flown in 1947. Its ability to operate from short strips, thanks to its large wingarea, and carry a payload of around 1,25 tons, made it an ideal utility transport for the Soviet Air Force and many thousands have been built. Military use in countries such as Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Cuba, ex Czechoslovakia, ex East Germany, Hungary, North Korea, Poland and Romania. The An-2 has been built under licence in Poland and China. Powered by a 746 kW (1000 h.p.) ASh-62-IR engine, it carries 14 troops, six stretchers or freight, and operate on wheels, skis or floats. Wing Span 18,18 m, Length 12,4 m, Max speed 253 km/h, Range 900 km (562 miles).
